Walnuts are SuperfoodsAre you aware that one of the best superfoods you can get today are different kinds of nuts?  I hear you asking; how can they possibly be healthy for you?. Just look at the label on any Nuts package where it states that they are loaded with fat and sodium. Now how can they be superfoods? Let alone one with healing powers?

Let me tell you a little bit about nuts, especially about all the fat in walnuts. Walnuts are low in saturated fat – the bad fattyacids – and high in the other two, polyunsaturated and mono-unsaturated fatty acids – the good fats;the ones your body needs to function best. Walnuts are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. This is the one we're told to get by eating lots of fish, especially wild caught salmon. I don't know about you but trying to eat wild salmon two to three times a week to get my allowance of Omega-3 fatty acids can be quite expensive. Not too many people have the time and the money to prepare a nice salmon steak several times a week. That's but only one reason why walnuts are good for us.

Another reason why Walnuts are great,a reason I have personally witnessed, and research has shown, that including healthy fats from walnuts in your diet can be beneficial to people trying to lose weight because the give you a feeling of fullness. Eat a handful of walnuts with a small glass of water. Wait about 20-30 minutes and see if you are still hungry. They will fill you up and keep you from eating to much. So whenever you get hungry in between meals, snack on some unsalted walnuts or cashew nuts for that matter and some raisins and keep away from eating unhealthy junk foods. It might not feel all that great in the first few days but you will get used to it very quickly and you will start to enjoy both; the weight loss as well as the nuts and raisins.

What else are walnuts good for?

The FDA has stated that walnuts are helpful in lowering cholesterol levels and help preventing heart diseases. Walnuts also lower blood pressure by scrubbing your veins and arteries clean and remove plaque buildup. The easier your blood flows through your body the less your heart has to work.

Furthermore, Walnuts contain high amounts of plant protein,Fibers, Vitamin B6, Folacin, vitamin E and Thiamin, thus many of the nutrients our body needs to function perfectly. Walnuts also help to supply the skin with the vital nutrients, the skin needs to rebuild damaged tissue. Walnuts therefore provide a natural way to help combat the signs of aging.

Regular Walnuts cost about $6 a pound. You can also get organic Walnuts for about $7 a pound. In any case, this beats the cost of most heart disease prescriptions and diet pill programs and I would recommend to go fro the organic ones! Check out your local farmer's market or whole food stores.

The various nutritional benefits of walnuts are nothing new to us, they have been understood for thousands of years. We are just a little slow in learning; are we?. I recommend you give some Walnuts a try. You can get all the health benefits of walnuts from just a handful of this superfood every day. Enjoy.

If you are looking for an epic super food that contains tons of protein, is extremely low fat, vegetarian and very inexpensive, then quinoa is your answer! Quinoa is a grain produced in South America but recently introduced in the western cultures diet. It is similar to rice or couscous yet with a much higher level of protein, almost 8-12%. Its very easy to cook and makes a fantastic side dish, breakfast, or even main meal. You can create an unlimited number of meals using quinoa. One of the best things about quinoa is that is really tastes good and is so good for you as well and you can even lose weight.

The most important part about cooking quinoa is to remember to soak it thoroughly first. Soaking the quinoa beforehand helps to loosens up and detaches the outer coating of saponin, which can give a bitter taste if not removed. It is also harder to digest if not soaked properly. Soaking it also ensure it cooks evening making the perfect light and fluffy dish.

One of my favorite ways to prepare quinoa is for breakfast. I cook a large batch of quinoa ahead of time and leave in the fridge until I need it. Breakfast time, I just take out a scoop of the fluffy grain, heat it up a bit and add some fresh raspberries and blueberries, a dash of brown sugar and some milk and it makes a really hearty breakfast that gives me a ton of energy without making me feel like I am stuffed. Quinoa alone has an earthy nutty flavor and works well with many additional fruits and vegetable.

Another way I like cooking quinoa is as a cold summertime salad with lots of vegetables such as carrots, cucumbers, jalepeno, red onion, garlic, and avocado, all topped off with lemon juice, olive oil, olives, and cilantro. This quinoa recipe makes the most amazingly spicy dish that everyone loves. It's a perfect meal for weight loss, its fantastic for athletes, and it's a great way for vegetarians to get some healthy protein that is needed for their diet. I cannot recommend enough that you should give it a try and find your flavor and way to serve it up for your friends and family. It's such an amazing superfood that I think you will soon see it serves as a stable in the western world, and rightfully so.
