Spirulina – The Blue Green Wonder

What is Spirulina

Spirulina is the most powerful known blue-green algae. Spirulina is a simple, one celled form of an algae thriving in warm, alkaline freshwater bodies. The name "Spirulina" itself comes from the Latin word for "helix" that stands for spiral; describing the physical configuration of the organism when it forms swirling, microscopic strands. Spirulina powder is about to become the number one superfood across the globe. Spirulina has been developed as the "Food of the Future" because of its amazing ability to synthesize high quality concentrated food more efficiently than other blue green algae. Most notably, Spirulina consists of about 70% complete protein and it also contains all essential amino acids in an almost perfect balance. Beef for example only contains about 22% of protein. So Spirulina is a natural health supplement containing far more protein than any other food known today. Spirulina is higher by volume than any other natural food and almost all nutritional supplements on the market.

This blue green algae is probably also the most exhaustively researched food micro algae ever. Spirulina has many uses and is oftentimes used by people in their own self care program for weight loss and cancer prevention as it offers more nutritional improvement for weight control and purifying blood. Spirulina is dried and pulverized to powder. For centuries it has been used as an abundant source of nutrients and has been proven to possess a vast array of medical uses, including its use as an antiviral, weight loss aid, antioxidants provider, and lipid reduction agent. Spirulina is meanwhile available everywhere around the globe. It is mostly used as an additional dietary supplement but also as whole food. It is usually obtainable in different forms which consist of powder, tablets, or flakes. I personally use a spoonful of Spirulina inmy morning shake after my workout session. That's when the body needs the energy of Spirulina most.

Spirulina also contains a high volume of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Other beneficial nutrients are GLA fatty acid, essential fatty acids, lipids, nucleic acids (RNA and DNA), vitamin C, Vitamin E and B complex. It contains phytochemicals like phycocyanin, chlorophyll and carotenoids. But we're not done yet; Spirulina is also a quality source of potassium and it contains large measures of iron, phosphorus, calcium, chromium, copper, magnesium, manganese, selenium, sodium and zinc! The protein in Spirulina is unlike other forms of protein as the protein contained is a gigantic 85-95% viable parts, which means its one of the two largest obtainable forms of protein for the body, in existence and only dried egg supplements contain more usable protein than spirulina powder.

Spirulina powder uses Sun energy and converts it into a massive supply of vitamins, minerals and proteins. Spirulina should be used by your whole family. It is perfectly safe for children and it has shown to supercharge vitality levels and increase stamina while strengthening the immune system. This greatly improves skin tone and nail and hair growth whilst providing a large quantity of nutrition with nearly no calories at all. Long before it became a supplement industry favorite, Spirulina was already used regularly by indigenous peoples all over the planet. For more than 40 years now, Spirulina has been researched for its amazing nutritional properties. Research has long proven thje effectiveness of Spirulina and people are starting to realize the power of Spirulina and recognize it as the remarkably superior food with monumental potential as a medicinal drug, that it is. Spirulina powder is often combined with fruit and vegetable juices or shakes and can also be added to food dishes to spike the nutritional content. For those of us without the time for daily preparations, it it is also available in tablets and capsules. The daily intake of Spirulina should be about 3 gram.

Organic Foods and Longevity!

Organic Foods can Seriously Prolong Your Life!

Organic Broccoli is excellent everyday superfood

Well, it took a while, but I'm finally got the message! I remember the first time I really "got it" in regards of organic foods and their enormous benefits they would have to my health. I was standing in a supermarket which sold primarily organic food products called Whole Foods market.

I just came from a long run, craving for food and was just looking for something healthy to eat so I wouldn't ruin the effort right away. I walked through the produce section and was in awe at the amazing beauty of the fruits and vegetables as the misty filtered water sprayed them as if in slow motion. The purple, green, and red kale in particular were as alive as if they had not yet been picked. In fact green leafy vegetables are indeed breathing living organic substances.

Fresh organic fruits and vegetables are packed with chlorophyll that is nearly identical to human blood. This is why green leafy vegetables are perhaps the greatest single food on the face of the earth. Introducing organic foods into your diet just may be the answer you are looking for that no one will tell you about. No one meaning the people you currently seek out for advice on your health.

Unless you are going to a professional well trained nutritionist or wellness professional who has dedicated his or her life to the prevention of sickness and the healing of mankind, the chances of you getting an empathetic response in regards to your own health is diminished right from the start. Organic foods are certified to be free of pesticides, herbicides and fungicides.

These vegetables and fruits are grown with love and respect versing greed and disrespect for human life on the other side. Organic foods in essence are as close to your natural make up as you can get. They are richer in nutrients and minerals. Vegetables are richer in chlorophyll and enzymes. Fruits are richer in antioxidants, amino acids and flavonoids. Both are rich on organic fiber which you need for the digestion of the food to avoid sicknesses like colon cancer, one of the most popular cancers in the western civilization.

Organic grains are not polluted with chemicals sprayed on them just so they don't fall down from having so many pesticides sprayed on them. Do you think by ingesting some of this clean pure food your chances of living longer are greater? I say yes, and back it up with my own experiences of feeling vibrant health ever since I've introduced organic foods into my diet. Not only have all my health related stats come into normal areas but I went from not being able to walk up a flight of stairs to training for an Ironman triathlon. Read the rest of this entry »

Why are Whole Foods so Important.

Some whole foods that contain a high range of important nutrients are often called superfoods e.g wheatgrass, sprouts, spirulina, and more. All whole foods are a mixture of vital nutrients and other minerals, so while a food may be rich in one particular nutrients it may also contain other valuable nutrients and health-giving factors in lesser doses. Finding healthy foods that even taste good and give you the best nutrition are a big part of the fun of eating well, no matter if you live alone, or with your family.

What makes a Healthy Diet?

The answer can be given in one single sentence:

Nutrition determines how we look, how we feel, how we work, if we will be nervous, tired, pessimistic, joyful, comfortable and happily active, whether we will age prematurely or enjoy our lives to the full.

Try these steps to improve the nutritional content of your food:

Eat healthy organic food whenever possible. Try to find superfoods and food supplements in your neighborhood. Inform yourself; read articles about healthy foods. Super Foods may be a bit more expensive, but you can be sure that the food you are eating has not been processed and has been grown without the use of fertilizers, pesticides, hormones, and other poisonous chemicals.

Here are some Food Processing Rules to Follow

  • Include as many superfoods in your diet as you can.
  • Eat lots whole grains.
  • Also eat the skin of vegetables and fruits.
  • Don't cut, juice, wash, or soak fruits and vegetables until you are ready to use them.
  • Drink lots of fresh fruit and vegetable juice.
  • Add plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables to every meal you eat.

Unfortunately, some of the best superfoods might not be available in your neighborhood, but that isn't so bad anymore as it was only a few years ago, If I would have even known about Acai berries for example, ten years ago, I still wouldn't have had the means to go to Brazil to get some. The free radicals are molecules that are produced when our body breaks down food or through environmental exposures like smog, tobacco smoke and radiation. By damaging our cells, free radicals play a major role for our aging process, in heart diseases, cancer and many other diseases. Antioxidants are found in many foods, but mainly in vegetables, berries, fruits, nuts, grains but also in some meat, poultry and fresh fish. Some specific foods that top the the list of antioxidant carriers that contain a lot more antioxidants than the average fruit or vegetable. These are the Top Three Antioxidant Superfoods.

Green tea also lowers cholesterol levels as well improving the ratio between bad and good cholesterol. 10 Superfoods You Need to Know About

Green Leafy Vegetables are Superfoods

There is an old saying that you are what you eat. If you eat foods that are good for you, you are naturally going to be healthier as an individual. That is why many people are now turning to superfoods and making sure that they get plenty of these in their diet regularly. Here are 10 superfoods that you not only need to know about, but you need to eat them regularly.

Blueberries – These small berries are really a gem, and not only can they provide you with a lot of antioxidants, they are also essential for prostate health. Make sure that you include these in your daily diet, either eating them with breakfast or mixing them into a smoothie.

Green Leafy Vegetables – Although not typically included in the list of 10 superfoods, you really can't beat the health benefits of including plenty of greens in your diet. Although it is possible for you to get your greens through eating salad, I prefer to make a green smoothie everyday which helps the body to assimilate it very quickly.

Cocoa Nibs – Everybody knows about the benefits of dark chocolate but I'm going to take it a step further than that. Cocoa nibs are the essence of dark chocolate, without anything bad included. They are one of the highest foods in antioxidants and you should make sure that you are eating a couple of tablespoons every day of this natural wonder.

Chia Seeds – Most people know about these from the cheesy late-night infomercials but they don't realize exactly what they are missing if they are not including them in their diet. These are so good for you that they were once worshipped by the ancient Aztecs. They contain healthy fats and enough fiber to keep you going throughout the day.

Kiwi – You should make sure that you are eating this fruit every single day. It is an excellent source of vitamin A. and E, along with giving you a lot of antioxidants. Not only that, it's delicious and it has a place on the list of 10 superfoods.

Quinoa – If there is something that could be considered a perfect food, this is it. It has much of the proteins that you're going to need to keep your body healthy and it is considered by the World Health Organization to be the perfect food for developing countries.

Salmon – Make sure that you include a little bit of fish in your diet on a weekly basis, but don't get the farm raised fish. If you are able to afford natural salmon, you will provide your body with much of what it needs in the form of essential fatty acids.

Legumes – As it turns out, beans really are good for your heart. They contain a lot of fiber and are low glycemic, helping you to keep the weight off while giving you enough calories to maintain a healthy diet.

Other Berries – If you are able to afford it, include plenty of berries in your daily diet. I like to have a berry smoothie in the morning, getting my day started with an antioxidant punch that really keeps me going.

Green Powers – One more thing that you can include in your diet are green powders. These help to round out your diet with super foods and can make it easy for you to get a healthy dose every day.

Hopefully you've picked up a few tips here on eating superfoods – including these into your diet will reward you greatly and combined with exercise will further help you to lose belly and body fat.

Introducing Superfoods to You and Your Family

What are Superfoods?

Raw Food Healthy Food - CarrotsIt is commonly known that our bodies require food for essential nutrients and energy, but some foods are better than others, and some are even better than that. These foods at the top of the list are known as superfoods, which are rich in vitamins and have been proven to improve your health and reduce your risk for many diseases.

What are the benefits of superfoods?

Superfoods are especially good for you because they’re rich in vitamins, minerals, and extra compounds that are good for your health and easy to process. Things such as omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, vitamins and minerals, and many things that are hard to pronounce. Superfoods have been involved in scientific studies to back up the health claims made for them.

How do I get these foods into my diet?

To begin using superfoods in your diet, start slowly. Change your snack of potato chips or candy to a cup of low fat flavored yogurt, and trade out lunch for a baked chicken sandwich with light mayo, a side salad, and some string cheese. Once you feel comfortable with this change, you can incorporate more super foods.

Getting your family and friends involved will provide a support system and make things even easier. It is a very simple change to make, and the benefits you’ll reap are priceless, but it does require that you do it and keep up with it. Don’t change your habits just long enough to loose a few pounds. I promise you’ll be much happier if you stick with it.

What about getting my kids to eat healthy?

The easiest way to get a child to eat healthy is to start young. Every parent has to go through the process of finding out what their kids love, what they will tolerate, and what will end up on the wall. This happens whether you choose to feed your child healthy or unhealthy food. The problem arises when you decide to make a change for the better and your child, who is used to (and loves) their current unhealthy eating habits, resists with full force.

But changing the eating habits of your whole family doesn’t have to end in tears with every meal. Just like anyone, kids need to be introduced to healthy eating slowly. This can be a positive change that you go through together, rather than against each other. There are just a few basic rules.

Pick your Battles

If your child loves carrots but feeds broccoli to the dog when you’re not looking, don’t fuss. Don’t cause a fight that will push them further and further into rebellion. Don’t give them broccoli for dinner. Instead mix a small amount in a homemade salad dressing, or a smoothie. Someday, their tastes may change and they decide to they love broccoli. It happens all the time.

Include your child in the preparation.

Many children love to assist in the kitchen. They feel important and it creates a great bonding opportunity. So let them help by washing or tearing vegetables, help them set the table, or even ask them to help you choose the food to make (within boundaries.) If your child is to the point they hate helping, ask them very nicely to do small things for you and give them lots of praise on what a great job they did without patronizing them. It helps build their willingness to do it again.

Make it fun

One way to encourage kids both to help in the kitchen AND to eat the food, is to make the preparation fun. Make the food into fun shapes or play kids music while you prepare. You could make the preparation into a game, make sound effects and be as silly as you want. You’ll be surprised to discover that you want to be in the kitchen more and more, too.

As with all diet changes, getting your child to eat healthy will take a little bit of work, some understanding, a healthy dose of creativity, and a whole lot of patience. It will also take compromises here and there. The end result is well worth the battle, though. So keep it up and one day your child will thank you.

Superfoods – Ten Reasons to Eat Superfoods

Hippocrates said 2400 years ago:

Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food!

Nature provided us with everything we need in order for our bodies to remain healthy. Superfoods are very rich in nutrients and here are ten reasons to include them in your diet:

  1. With the modern day food industry refining natural foods to such an extent that they have the nutrients refined out them, very many people have diets far removed from what nature intended and are therefore deplete in essential nutrients.
  2. Superfoods can be less expensive than refined ready made and packaged foods to be found in the supermarkets. So called superfoods do not have to be the exotic and/or more expensive fruit and vegetables, which may have been imported from afar, that appear on many lists. They may be foods found closer to home such as peppers of all colors, sprouts, tomatoes, carrots, broccoli.
  3. Superfoods are colorful, tasty and full of texture and are therefore more satisfying. Part of the feeling of ‘having had enough’ or satiated is due to the experience of the actual eating itself and of the different textures and colors of the food. People are likely to eat less of the highly calorific and refined foods and therefore less likely to put on weight.
  4. Many superfoods produce an alkaline ash in the body which is much healthier for the individual. The body needs to maintain a slightly alkaline pH in order to stay healthy. A more acidic body is prone to inflammation, degenerative diseases, loss of skeletal calcium and gaining weight.
  5. Including superfoods in a balanced and varied diet may enable you to actually lose weight. Superfoods are ‘nutrient dense’ and it has been shown that people who consume the most nutrient dense diets may lose weight the easiest. This is likely to be because in this case, people are not eating so many highly calorific foods which are also relatively empty in nutrients.
  6. Eating superfoods is likely to bring back a balanced way of eating, reducing cravings and bingeing on refined, sugary foods. This will stabilize the blood glucose levels and reduce the possibility of adult onset diabetes.
  7. The majority of superfoods are low in fat and therefore calories, and so help with calorie controlled eating and weight loss.
  8. Also they generally have quite a high fiber content and as well has helping with weight loss they help the digestive system to function well and speed up transit time of the alimentary canal contents
  9. Superfoods combine phytonutrients – vitamins and minerals, antioxidants and adaptogens vital for health. Eg. they may reduce the risk of cancer, lower blood pressure and even improve eyesight.
  10. Superfoods boost your immune system and help you to fight off infections and diseases.

I hope that these top ten reasons to eat superfoods will encourage you to learn more about them and to include them in your daily eating.
