Candida and the Power of Green Superfoods

Candida and SuperfoodsWhen I was having my 3 year stint with candida (and the beginnings of interstitial cystitis) it was not a fun time but I learned alot. At one point I was invited to go to a workshop where a woman who had healed her own breast cancer was speaking about the importance of PH balance. I didn't know much about it and I hadn't made the connection yet but it intrigued me and I went. Turned out it was really fascinating and made sense to me. Ph balance is more important than I thought. I guess you can think about it this way. Swimming pools, if we are not diligent about keeping track of the PH readings, will start to grow ugly nasty bacteria. So will our bodies. If we feed our bodies nothing but acidic foods and thoughts we will create an acidic environment. Yeast, candida, and even cancer cells change in relationship to their environment.

Since I was struggling with candida for so long I decided it would be a good idea to test my PH. I got some PH testing strips and tested my urine and to my horror I couldn't even see a reading! The lowest reading was 5.0 (a healthy body should show a reading around 6.5 – ultimately 7.3). I couldn't see a reading at all. I took it over and over. The saliva reading was somewhat better but I compared mine to others and it was significantly lower and more acidic. This blew me away because I juice everyday so I thought I had it covered. Obviously I didn't have it covered or else I would not have been struggling with candida for so long. I had already changed my diet, I was taking a good probiotic everyday and even using anti-fungals. I didn't think there was anything else I could do.

Well, I had heard and read about green superfoods like chlorella, spirulina, barley grass, wheat grass, oat grass and how they raise PH levels so I decided to experiment. I began by using chlorella and spirulina and then added others and kept track of my PH. It wasn't long (a few days) before I started to notice my interstitial cystitis symptoms fading away. I also noticed my candida symptoms becoming less and less noticable!

This was about a year ago and I have continued to do well. So I maintain a regimen of watching my food, taking a probiotic everyday (though occasionally I forget but it doesn't seem to matter) and I hardly ever seem to need the anti-fungal anymore. I put the green powder in my vegetable juice in the morning and I feel like I'm drinking a glass of "green vitality." It's awesome.

It seems, for me, that this has been the missing link to getting control of candida and interstitial cystitis.

Lucky for me he was more than willing to share his talent and wisdom with me for as long as he was able.

Just sharing my thoughts, stories, experiences, and suggestions. Hoping to learn, grow and maybe offer some help along the way. I am passionate about good food (organic if possible), juicing, probiotics and superfoods like Chlorella and Spirulina. I also try and find the best ways to be healthy while also being thrifty. Simplicity is also a passion of mine.

Wheatgrass Barley Grass and Green Superfoods

It's all about going Green

Wheatgrass and Barley Grass are SuperfoodsWheatgrass, Barley Grass and other "cereal grasses" are nutrient powerhouses. The young tender leaves of the wheatgrass, barley grass, oat and rye plants have a nutrient density like no other plants.. During their early stages of growth, these grasses are actually considered to be vegetables, not grains. Once they reach their nutritional peak, usually after seven days, just before developing into a firm stalk, the grasses are harvested and grinded into juice, or low-temperature dehydrated into a whole food powder, which preserves all the natural nutrients and enzymes in the grasses.

Green Superfoods like Cereal grasses are richer than ordinary vegetables in many nutrients, including antioxidants like beta-carotene. They're also very rich in phytonutrients, and have what early researchers called 'The Grass Juice Factor'. This unidentifiable 'factor' was consistent evidence that livestock and other animals raised with these 'cereal grasses' as part of their diets showed superior health and vitality when compared to animals raised on more conventional feeds. Prominent food scientists Charles Schnabel and Dr. George Kohler began researching the effects of these powerful foods in the 1920's and 30's. They discovered uniquely high amounts of diverse nutrients and food factors in the grasses, when compared to other vegetables. "15 lbs of wheat grass is equal in overall nutritional value to over 350 lbs of ordinary vegetables,' said Schnabel.

After Schnabel and Kohler's findings were recognized and endorsed by government agencies, dehydrated wheat grass tablets were the first 'multivitamins' sold nationwide, and were even prescribed by doctors for various ailments. It wasn't until the chemical revolution in the 1950's that consumers began forsaking nature's nutrients in favor of manmade vitamins. But…results don't lie, and over the last few decades there has fortunately been a renewed interest and appreciation for whole food nutrition, and green superfoods like cereal grasses.

Green Superfoods such as wheatgrass are an awesome addition to anyone's daily diet. They are:

  • Super-rich in Antioxidant beta carotene
  • Source of Alkalizing trace minerals and Phytonutrients
  • Big nutritional punch per gram vs. many common vegetables

Superfoods are in general ultra-concentrated sources of broad spectrum nutrients
When shopping for a wheatgrass / barley grass product / green foods product, there's a few requirements you should have. A good green superfood product should:

  • Use organically grown grasses
  • Be concentrated and in a form easy to drink and digest
  • Have a dark green look, a smooth rich texture, and a rich, 'greens' scent
  • Be wild-crafted and all-natural, with no added synthetic ingredients
  • Use no low cost fillers such as soy lecithin or apple pectin fiber
  • Have additional support super-ingredients like spirulina and chlorella

In my opinion, green superfoods are the absolute best whole food supplement to your daily diet.

Remember, invest into your health, and your life will thank you!

Green Superfoods Like Wheatgrass, Barley Grass, Spirulina and Chlorella – 5 More Reasons to Eat

Processed food is really bad for you. Real food is good. Superfoods are really good.

Last time, I gave 5 reasons to start eating Superfoods in your daily diet. Superfoods are known for their nutrient density, antioxidant capabilites, and anti-cancer and -disease properties.

Here are 5 More Reasons (of the many) to integrate Green Superfoods into your daily diet:

6. Supports healthy digestion. Green superfoods are packed with Chlorophyll, which is what makes green plants green. This substance helps aid the body in proper digestion by gently stimulating the walls of your intestinal tract. This helps your body eliminate toxins and waste in a timely and efficient manner. Also, compounds in green superfoods help feed the friendly bacteria in your intestines, promoting a healthy environment and superior nutrient absorption from other foods.

7. Helps with food cravings. When you consume a super-rich portion of green foods that are high in nutrients and low in calories, you’re feeding your body without stuffing yourself. Your body’s cravings for more food temporarily goes down, since it’s getting the nutrients it desires.

8. Gives you energy. Wheatgrass shots have become really popular for mainly one reason: energy. Green superfoods are nature’s energy boosters. They have a wide array of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that all work together to bring fresh living energy into your system. Simply put: Living foods help you live better, and give you more energy.

9. Helps your immune system fend off intruders. People have always hate getting colds. Many people have noticed, since the 1930s till now, that when they consume wheatgrass, in the form of a tablet or powder, their immune system’s resistance to cold and flu becomes stronger. This is one of the main reasons why green superfoods like wheatgrass have remained so popular over the decades.

10. Better nutrition than a mega-vitamin. Low cost mega-vitamins are made with synthetic isolated nutrients created in labs. They’re also packed with fillers, emulsifiers and stabilizers. Doesn’t sound like food to me! Green superfoods are complex God-created compounds that supply your body with vitamins, minerals, bioflavonoids, plant pigments, enzymes and friendly bacteria that all work together to feed your body the nutrients it desires. In short, the “whole” factor in “whole food” is far better than the sum of all the parts individually.

Shopping Tips: When choosing a Green Superfood powder to consume daily, I definitely recommend that it has the following characteristics:

-A variety of chlorophyll-rich green superfoods, including grasses, algae, land greens

-Rich, emerald green color – signifies nutrient density

-Super-concentrated grasses and grass juices – Look for triple concentrated. This gives you more nutritional bang per buck

-At least 6,000mg of Greens per serving, preferably 7,000mg. The majoriy of each serving should be Greens.

-No low cost fillers (like soy lecithin), and no artificial flavorings, colors, or additives,

-It must mix well with water or juice, and you must enjoy the taste. If you have to force it down, it’s not worth it.

-Money Back Guarantee. A reputable brand will back up their product.

Consuming a Green Superfood Powder Supplement every day is the perfectly convenient way to achieve your daily fruits/veggies servings, and to boost your energy, immunity, and long term vitality!
